About the Role
The Construction Engineer will be responsible for overseeing construction projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable regulations and standards. The Construction Engineer will work closely with contractors, inspectors, project managers, and other stakeholders to coordinate and monitor all aspects of the construction process, from project planning and design to final completion and closeout. Responsibilities include:
Conduct pre-construction meetings with contractors, inspectors, and other stakeholders to review project plans, specifications, and schedules
Monitor construction progress, identify and resolve issues, and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget
Review contractor submittals, including plans, drawings, and materials, to ensure compliance with project specifications and IDOT standards
Coordinate with project managers, inspectors, and contractors to schedule and conduct required tests, inspections, and quality control procedures
Prepare and submit progress reports, change orders, and other documentation as required by IDOT policies and procedures
Ensure compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations
Assist in the resolution of disputes and claims arising from construction projects
Provide technical support and guidance to project teams as needed
Requirements
BS in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or similar
0-2 years of experience
Highly motivated and attention to detail
Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Illinois Standard Specifications
Experience with roadway construction, including IDOT and Illinois Tollway
IDOT Document of Contract Quantities Certification
IDOT QA/QC Certifications
