SWE Solutions provided Construction Inspection services for the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority for the I-294 Central Tri-State Roadway Reconstruction and Widening. Interstate 294 (I-294) is a tolled auxiliary Interstate highway, serving as a bypass around the city of Chicago. The Central Tri-State Roadway Reconstruction and Widening from Flagg Creek to Hinsdale Oasis (MP 23.8 to MP 25.0) is a Phase III construction project consisting of the inspection and supervision of widening both north and south bound lanes, including the extension of the box culvert.


The project's scope of work included inspecting contractor’s daily activities:

  • Relocation of temporary light poles

  • Earth/structural excavation

  • Utility potholing

  • Box culvert tie reinforcement bars & wood framing

  • Drilling shaft for the noise wall foundation

  • Pavement removal

  • Trench drainage installation

  • Asphalt paving for roadway

  • Cofferdam installation for redirecting water flow

  • Installation of temporary drainage system
