SWE Solutions provided Construction Inspection services for the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority for the I-294 Central Tri-State Roadway Reconstruction and Widening. The following scopes are relevant example’s of SWE’s capabilities to work as a team to successfully deliver construction projects.


Interstate 294 (I-294) is a tolled auxiliary Interstate highway, serving as a bypass around the city of Chicago. The Central Tri-State Roadway Reconstruction and Widening from Ogden Avenue to Cermak Road (MP 27.8 to MP 29.5) is a Phase III construction project consisting of the inspection and supervision of widening both north and south bound lanes, including the replacement of mainline bridges and structures.


The project's scope of work includes the following items:

  • Mainline pavement removal reconstruction and widening

  • Reconstruction of mainline bridges over Salt Creek (BN 267 & 268)

  • Slope wall modification at west abutment of 31st St (BN 269)

  • Stain concrete parapets, piers, and abutments on 31st St (BN 269)

  • Stain concrete parapets, piers, and abutments on Cermak Bridge (BN 203)

  • Retaining walls

  • Noise abatement walls

  • Intelligent transportation facilities (ITS)

  • Overhead sign structures

  • Removal and replacement of guardrail, barrier wall, and attenuators

  • Erosion control and landscaping

  • Lighting

  • Maintenance of Traffic
